How do they grow up so fast? Hard to believe he’s a senior! And time for pictures for the third boy in this family. Old Town Alexandria is full of great backdrops for lots of good color and texture without walking too far. Thanks for being a great sport Charlie!
I first visited Vizcaya in Miami when I was down in the Florida Keys to photograph a wedding in October 2019. I was enchanted and it immediately was added to the short list of my favorite places. All that was missing was a couple to photograph in this stunning setting. I couldn’t wait to find a way to return. When my cousin mentioned that her anniversary trip was to Miami and they planned to hire a photographer (and purchase a permit) for formal pictures at Vizcaya, I jumped at the chance and volunteered to fly down for 24 hours.
You see, she was my first subject when she was a toddler and part of the story of how I fell in love with portrait photography. I’ve photographed her many times and she’s so comfortable in front of the camera it’s easy. I would be able to fully focus on the entire scene. And she chose a beautiful, full, black gown with lots of movement that was fun for spinning, dancing, dipping, and walking.
Her husband is a great sport too – in spite of the fact that it was August and we thought we were going to completely melt into a puddle on this overcast yet super humid and insanely hot day! At least the heat did keep me from wanting to stay the entire day!
To say it was hard to narrow it down to a reasonable number of photos to keep is an understatement. Anyone want to plan a trip to Vizcaya for photos? I’d recommend going during the winter though. 🙂
Senior Year in High School is such a milestone, and worthy of portraits. This brother sister twin duo was hard to catch with their busy summer schedules, but we did fit in a senior picture session on morning in Old Town Alexandria, before they headed back to school. It’s been fun to photograph them and their family over the years, and Charlotte always has the cutest dresses! She looked so pretty in her navy and gold polka dots. Have a great senior year!
A milestone Wedding Anniversary, like 50 years! is worth celebrating! And worth documenting in extended family pictures! Everyone was in town at the same time, so we met up in Old Town Alexandria to capture all the families, parents and grown kids, cousins, grandparents and grandkids – all the combinations. I loved their color scheme: navy and aqua. So pretty and summer-y! It’s hard to have everyone in a large group match, and they don’t need to. But choosing a couple of colors works so well to keep everyone in the family coordinated so the photo looks cohesive.
Such a sweet summer wedding. It doesn’t get any more summery than black eyed Susans in the bouquets! The day started with a church wedding, many meaningful moments as family and friends participated. Before joining the reception at the Alexandrian in Old Town Alexandria, the bride and groom were dropped off with the Maid of Honor (always helpful to have someone to hold extra things and help with the bride’s dress and bouquet) a few blocks away for portraits. I love when we have a little time in a pretty spot for portraits! It doesn’t take long, but you do have to plan for it to fit into the wedding day. We used several scenic spots as we walked to the hotel to join the cocktail hour. Old Town Alexandria never disappoints as it’s full of beautiful colors and textures on every house and street. It was a warm July evening, but that didn’t stop the group from enjoying the evening with lots of dancing and fun in the Alexandrian courtyard. Congratulations Abby and Austin, best wishes for a lifetime of happiness together!
