Fairfax Newborn Photographer – Baby Jack Pictures

How sweet is baby Jack? At 6 days old he was still very sleepy and pose-able which made photographing him so much fun.  Really new newborns are used to being squished up so they don’t seem to mind being curled up and they can sleep through anything.  I’m not sure if they are still resting from the trauma of birth or they just are used to sleeping though all sorts of noise as they go everywhere with mama, but taking their picture within the first week makes such a difference. This little guy was not only adorable but he also gets a gold star for cooperating so well for his first portrait session!  Here are a few of my favorite pictures of this beautiful baby boy.

How cute will he be this winter as he grows into his lion hat!

If you’re expecting a baby and thinking about newborn pictures, contact me before the baby arrives so I can put your due date on my calendar.  Then we can schedule a session as soon as the baby arrives to catch that sweet newness.

Featured Wedding Photographer on Wed Loft

I’m so excited to be the featured photographer on Wed Loft today!  You can see the full post here and see lots of wedding day pictures from Amy and Rod’s River Farm garden wedding in Alexandria Virginia in May of 2009.  What a wonderful couple and beautiful wedding it was! A happy couple and lots of personal details are a wedding photographers dream, I’m so glad Wed Loft choose this wedding to feature.

A little about this blog: “Wed Loft is a WeddingWindow.com blogging community comprised of both wedding professionals and brides and grooms. Learn from the pros or from those who are going through the same experiences you are. Creative ideas, DIY solutions, inspiration boards, expert advice and tools are just a few of the many helpful wedding planning resources you will find.”

And thanks again to Laura Ritchie with Events in the City for helping to coordinate and produce so many great details and personal touches.

Old Town Alexandria Family Photographer – Jessie, Cole, Ethan and Griffin

They’ve grown so much! Since their last portrait shoot almost two years ago, Cole, Ethan and Griffin have really grown up. That’s the fun of being a family photographer, seeing how kids change over the years.  Baby teeth fall out and faces mature.  Things parents may not notice when they see their kids every day, but very real changes all the same.

Below are some of my favorite pictures of the bigger boys and their wonderful big sister around Old Town Alexandria Virginia.  (And if you know their mom, keep this post top secret so we don’t spoil her Christmas surprise!)

Wilmore Kentucky Family Photos

At the end of August I took a little trip to Kentucky to visit some friends and second shoot a wedding with Cydil (her photography website).  Just a few days before, they’d come home from Albania with the sweetest most adorable little addition to their family.  David Reni steals the heart of everyone that meets him!  He recently turned one, but is already proving to be a very curious and mechanically inclined child, figuring out how all the moving parts of things work from the door hinges to cabinet doors and dresser drawers to his toys. You can read about their adoption adventure on their family blog. Here are a few images from their first official family of four photo shoot. By the way, Cydil’s dad is a farmer, so featuring something John Deere was a must – plus the wagon is a favorite with both kids.

Portraits as Art – Gallery Wrapped Canvas

Gallery Wrapped Canvas is a beautiful way to create a fine art piece to decorate your home with pictures of your kids and family.  It’s a timeless way to display portraits and with the image wrapped around the wooden frame, no extra framing is needed.  The canvas texture is classic and gallery wrapped canvas looks just as nice in a formal living room as a casual family room.

Don’t be afraid to go large.  Three 16×20 canvases are perfect above a sofa.  Measure your wall space and you’ll find that a 20×30 fits just fine.  The black and white canvas is a 20×30 and the colorful one is a 16×22 – another advantage, canvas can be made in the size that fits the image best rather than the standard print sizes.  I use a company to make these canvases that only works with professional photographers and their product is of the highest quality and just gorgeous.  Think about where a gallery wrapped canvas would look nice in your home, I’m sure you have the perfect spot!
