Tulips and a little girl make a picture perfect combo. A lovely spring evening is the best time to visit the Burnside Farm tulip fields for family pictures. They provide a scenic spot to capture the personality of this darling girl as she explores the flowers and the wooden shoes. You may recognize this great couple from their wedding pictures a few years ago, and it was so fun to catch up and meet the adorable addition to their family, Olivia. Isn’t she the cutest thing?!
The weird winter weather made the tulips a little short this year, but still so pretty. Make sure you get on my calendar early for your family pictures at this beautiful country location in Haymarket, Virginia next spring!
Longwood Gardens, spectacular tulips, and this family. Things I love all in one place! I’ve been honored to photograph their wedding, each of their babies as newborns and now a family photo session at our favorite garden. Don’t they have the cutest kids?! It was so much fun to capture their personalities!
And if you want to see the best tulips on the east coast you’ve got to go to Longwood Gardens next spring!
Lots of girls on the blog this month! The 5-7 age group is just so fun to work with! They have a bit of an attention span and can participate in the creative process. My niece London is still three but every shoot gets easier and her personality shows more. It was super hot this day and she’d fallen asleep in the car on the way, so all considered she did a great job and it was fun to go to the garden with just her. And lots of twirling kept her engaged. I bought this dress for her years ago after a client had a similar one for her little girl and I thought it was just the perfect dress for a photo shoot. And London likes to wear her hair in a ponytail so I wanted to capture her the way we see her so often. Cuteness.
Claire is almost 7 and I must say, this is such a fun age to photograph! (* parents take note! :)) I’ve photographed her since she was a toddler and each session is easier and more enjoyable, for everyone. I like to include kids in the ideas for poses and have them help me find spots they like, to keep them engaged in the process and accurately capture their personality.
And I just love cute little baby teeth and we caught hers just before they start falling out. And I’m so glad her parents jumped in for this shoot, so they have some great family photos too.
Isn’t Claire incredibly photogenic?! And props to mom for a great choice on Claire’s classic, flattering and subtly patriotic outfit! A couple reasons I like it: it has layers, texture, just enough pattern to be interesting but not busy, a flattering color and interesting neckline for close up shots, sleeves to make tight cropping look better and reduce the amount of skin (to keep the focus on her face) and a long enough skirt to easily sit.
Jessalyn loves flowers, a girl after my own heart! And she certainly will never forget twirling in the tulips in the rain! It seemed appropriate to post these today since I’m not sure it will ever stop raining in DC, I’m ready to see the sun again!
I wanted to catch Jessalyn before she lost any more baby teeth and her family was only in town for the morning, so we made the best of the weather and continued our plan in the rain. And the shoot certainly made some memories for all of us! And those cute new rain boots I bought on clearance that I was afraid I’d never wear keep coming in handy!
