Washington DC Family Photographer – Jacob

I’ve been photographing Jacob since he was a newborn and I just love every session more than the last!  It’s so much fun to work with the same clients year after year and see how the kids grow and change.

Jacob is 4.75 and is starting to have more opinions about poses and locations, but if he’ll go along with my ideas, I’m happy to try his too.  It’s all about keeping our little model happy and engaged in the creative process so we get personality in the pictures.

Before showing this years pictures, I wanted to share one of the products from last years portrait session. Jacob always has fun making lots of faces for me.  I created the collage you see below to show all those pictures together.  It was printed as a large square as you see it, and mounted on standout so it didn’t need framing.  There are so many great ideas for displaying images!

This years’s session apparently went on way too long, as I have way too many favorites!   But it’s so hard to stop when the subject is so adorable! Doesn’t he look stylish in his hat?

Old Town Alexandria Engagement Pictures – Anne and Tim

Anne and Tim love to travel, so we traveled back in time in Old Town Alexandria for their engagement shoot.  I lost count on how many times it started to rain on us during the shoot, but they were troopers as we looked for beautiful, and dry, spots for the best pictures.  I love all the colors and textures in Old Town, and the addition of some fall color was an added bonus. Without further ado, here’s the cute couple!

Fall Family Photos in Georgetown Washington DC

The big questions for this family shoot was, would it be easier than last year?  Are 2 1/2 old twin boys more cooperative than they were at one and a half?  Over all the answer was – yes! The airplanes were a big distraction, as the first image illustrates.  But otherwise, beyond the normal challenge of getting 3 young children and their parents to all look the same direction and smile at the same time, there were so many good family shots!  Aunt April gets all the credit for the smiles, she worked so hard to keep everyone entertained!

Published – Fairfax Virginia Wedding Photography

An “oldie but goodie” was published recently on the Wedding Pickle blog.  Anita and Jerald recently celebrated their 4th wedding anniversary, wow, time flies! I’m also happy to report that they are still the perfect match.  I enjoyed seeing them last summer and catching up at a college reunion (Jerald and I graduated in the same class).  To see the full post of pictures, click here.

Thanks so much Melina for the feature!

Arlington Cemetery – Arlington Virginia Photographer

Last weekend I went to Arlington Cemetery for a client, to take pictures of a special site they were not able to visit in person, but wanted to remember.  I was honored to do that for them.

Being in such a somber, peaceful place gives life a sense of perspective.  It’s more about the whole, the big picture, not the stresses of today.  And the balance of beauty and pain that gives life such depth.

As I see the old trees and the beautiful fall color in Arlington Cemetery, I also can’t help but think of the history of the land, before it was a cemetery.  One of the more interesting biographies I’ve read was about Mary Custis Lee, Mrs. Robert E.Lee: The Lady of Arlington.  Beginning with her childhood growing up at Arlington House in the heart of the Washington social scene to the pain of the family as they lost their beloved home to the cemetery during the Civil War, it offers a new look at a well-known place.

(Note, the pictures below were taken in a different section of the cemetery to protect the family’s privacy.)
